Title: Learning & Development Specialist
Position Summary: The Learning & Development Specialist plays a critical, hands‑on role in building and scaling the company’s formal learning and development function within a construction environment. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing training programs, with a primary focus on building out the Learning Management System (LMS), supporting onboarding, and enabling employee and leadership development across the organization. This is an ideal role for someone who wants to dig in, build something meaningful from the ground up, make a visible impact, and grow with the organization. As the learning function matures, this role has a clear path to future management responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Learning Management System (LMS) – Design & Development
Own the design, development, and ongoing build‑out of the company’s LMS platform
Partner directly with department leads (construction operations, project controls, safety, field leadership, support teams, etc.) to:
Identify training needs and gaps
Translate operational knowledge into structured learning content
Build role‑based learning paths and progression pathways
Develop training content including:
LMS modules
Job‑specific learning paths
SOP‑based instruction
System and process training materials
Maintain content accuracy, version control, and continuous improvement as processes evolve
Onboarding & New Hire Training
Design and maintain standardized onboarding agendas and training materials
Support and help lead general onboarding sessions for new hires
Coordinate onboarding training across office, project, and field‑based roles
Ensure new employees receive clear, consistent instruction aligned with construction operations and company standards
Employee & Leadership Development
Support and help shape the company’s employee development and leadership training initiatives
Research, evaluate, and coordinate external leadership development programs and training providers
Assist managers with identifying development opportunities for their teams and coordinating participation
Help translate leadership concepts into practical, construction‑relevant learning experiences
Training Enablement & Engagement
Provide training support for new systems, tools, and company initiatives
Assist with company‑wide SOP documentation by helping convert procedures into usable training materials
Participate in leadership workshops, training sessions, and company events
Support engagement activities such as facilitating icebreakers or interactive learning components when appropriate
Collaboration & Growth
Work cross‑functionally with HR, Operations, IT, Safety, and department leaders
Track training effectiveness and gather feedback to improve programs
Help establish foundational processes and standards for the learning function
Grow alongside the role as the department expands, with the opportunity to take on future leadership or management responsibilities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Development, Education, Human Resources, Business, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
Experience in learning & development, training, instructional design, or onboarding
Demonstrated ability to design and develop training content, not just coordinate it
Strong communication and facilitation skills
Comfortable working in a construction, operations, or field‑based environment
Self‑starter mindset with a willingness to build, test, iterate, and improve
Experience with LMS platforms, SOP‑driven environments, or systems training is a plus
Why This Role
Opportunity to build and shape a newer formal company initiative
Highly visible impact across construction operations and leadership
Hands‑on work with real ownership, not just administration
Clear runway for growth into management as the learning function scales
