Lead Process Development Chemist

Our client, a leading specialty chemicals manufacturer, is seeking a talented Lead Process Development Chemist to enhance their innovative product development team. This role focuses on the research, development, and optimization of chemical processes for the large-scale production of novel chemical compounds. You will lead projects from laboratory-scale feasibility studies through to pilot plant trials and commercialization, ensuring efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Responsibilities include designing and executing experimental plans, characterizing reaction kinetics and thermodynamics, and identifying critical process parameters. You will collaborate closely with R&D scientists, chemical engineers, and manufacturing personnel to ensure seamless technology transfer and scale-up. A key aspect involves troubleshooting existing processes and implementing improvements to enhance yield and purity.

The ideal candidate possesses a Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 6 years of experience in process chemistry or chemical process development, preferably within the chemical industry. Strong expertise in organic synthesis, reaction optimization, and scale-up principles is required. Proficiency with analytical techniques such as GC, HPLC, NMR, and spectroscopy for reaction monitoring and product characterization is essential. Experience with process safety evaluations (e.g., HAZOP) and familiarity with regulatory requirements are highly desirable. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are needed to effectively lead projects and collaborate with diverse teams. This position, based in Detroit, Michigan, US , offers a hybrid work arrangement, balancing collaborative in-office work with remote flexibility.
