Lead Principal Engineer- Substation

Job Description We are seeking an experienced Substation Engineer with 15+ years of experience to join our team. You will be responsible for performing engineering assignments ranging from limited scope and complexity to advanced projects that require expertise in multiple disciplines. This role involves working under varying levels of supervision, with an expectation of increased independence at higher levels. Additionally, you will assist with project management, negotiations, performance tracking, and reporting. Responsibilities • Plan, organize, and manage engineering projects while ensuring regulatory compliance. • Lead technical teams and engage in decision-making, technical analysis, project coordination, and engineering oversight. • Focus on utility-scale solar, BESS, and power plant operations. • Work as an extension of the engineering team to ensure designs meet project specifications, safety standards, and long-term performance and reliability goals. • Provide high-level oversight of engineering and project execution, negotiating technical and regulatory requirements, and influencing executive-level project decisions. • Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and optimize technical designs for energy infrastructure. • Act as the technical authority on engineering standards, practices, and regulatory requirements. • Provide high-level expertise in system design, grid optimization, and technical risk management. • Work closely with customer leadership to guide engineering strategies, solve complex challenges, and ensure long-term infrastructure resilience. Essential Skills • 15+ years of experience in planning, designing, and executing large-scale energy projects, including solar, BESS, wind, and hydrogen systems. • Bachelor of Science in Engineering. • Expertise in electrical/IC engineering, including electric distribution systems, power systems, and computational tools like ETAP and EDISON. • Mechanical engineering skills, including pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and pipe stress analysis. • Advanced experience in system integration and risk management. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Minneapolis, MN. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
