Lead Instructor – Medical Billing & Coding Program

Position Summary : Seeking an outstanding Lead Instructor for our Medical Billing & Coding Program.

The Program Lead Instructor assumes responsibility for the entire Medical Billing and Coding Program. Duties include overseeing the design, development, and assessment of program curricula; scheduling and staffing classes; hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating program instructors; recommending the purchasing of supplies and equipment; assisting with the coordination of externship sites, including student placement and performance assessment; developing community contacts and chairing advisory board meetings; teaching program courses as needed according to specified learning outcomes; academic advising and career related counseling for students; monitoring student retention and identifying and assist at-risk students; maintaining competency and currency in the field, research, trends, issues, and practices, including effective teaching strategies and assessment methods; and providing support for program and institutional initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
β€’ Teach any assigned courses and act as a substitute instructor as needed
β€’ Oversee the design, development, revision, and assessment of curricula, including course objectives, instructional methods, learning outcomes, projects, and assessment measures
β€’ Recommend program equipment, supplies, library materials, textbooks, and other items for purchase and use; monitor the safety and quality of instructional materials.
β€’ Participate in and development of orientation.
β€’ Manage special projects as formally assigned by the Dean of Health Informatics (including but not limited to new student orientation programs and open houses, assistance with accreditation preparation, campus events, and supervision of staff).
β€’ Identify and refer at-risk students and actively engage in retention activities including documented communication with both students and administration regarding attendance and progress.
β€’ Ability to identify students who are having difficulty with the material and provide a different learning approach to help them better comprehend the material
β€’ Ability to train the faculty & students in technical skills such as billing, coding, software management, and the patient’s medical record.
β€’ Assist students with course registration and academic advice and mentor instructors on effective academic counseling techniques.
β€’ Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus.
β€’ Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate instructors; and maintain the continuity and relevance of the program curriculum by meeting regularly with the instructors.
β€’ Provide annual documentation of continuing professional growth in educational theory or techniques and in field; instruction in educational theory or techniques may include such things as college courses, seminars or in-service on topics such as learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, or assessment techniques.
β€’ Chair Advisory Board meetings at least yearly and develop community contacts that can assist with job placement.

Skills/Competencies/Qualifications:
β€’ Minimum of 3 years of work experience in Medical Billing and Coding REQUIRED
β€’ Minimum of 3 years of teaching and/or academic advisement REQUIRED
β€’ CPC-I credential REQUIRED
β€’ Knowledge of Blackboard PREFERRED
β€’ Masters Degree PREFERRED

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year

License/Certification:
β€’ Certified Professional Coder Instructor (CPC-I) (Required)
