Role Objective

We're seeking a Lead Attorney – Family & Humanitarian Immigration to serve as a senior attorney and first-line legal supervisor within our family-based and humanitarian practice areas.

This role is for an experienced immigration attorney who wants to remain deeply involved in casework while also being accountable for the quality and consistency of other attorneys' work.

This is not a Senior Associate role. This is a working leadership position. We operate with high standards because our clients trust us with their safety, their families, and their future. You will ensure legal excellence and consistency at every level within your practice area.

Key Responsibilities

Substantial Personal Caseload
• Maintain a significant caseload focused on:
• 601a waivers
• Consular processing
• Adjustment of Status (AOS)
• T visas
• VAWA
• RFEs and complex follow-up filings
• Independently manage cases from strategy through filing, including issue spotting, evidence development, legal writing, and client communication

First-Line Supervision and Legal Review
• Serve as the first supervisory layer for attorneys handling similar case types
• Review legal work at designated points
• Coach attorneys on case theory, evidence strategy, and writing quality
• Answer day-to-day legal questions and guide judgment calls
• Identify quality or performance issues early and address them directly
• Enforce the Legal Director's standards within your practice area

Escalation and Risk Management
• Act as the first escalation point for complex or higher-risk issues, including:
• Unusual facts or procedural posture
• Prior immigration history or adverse factors
• Strategy uncertainty
• Potential legal or ethical concerns
• Escalate issues requiring senior authority to the Legal Director with clear analysis and recommendations

Quality Consistency and Pattern Detection
• Ensure legal work within the practice area is consistent in strategy and presentation, aligned with firm legal standards, appropriately supervised, and free from recurring avoidable errors
• Surface patterns and systemic issues to the Legal Director for structural-level resolution

Collaboration with Leadership
• Work closely with the Legal Director by providing feedback on attorney performance and training needs
• Flag staffing or supervision constraints
• Contribute to the improvement of templates and legal standards
• Coordinate coverage within the practice area according to established supervision and escalation rules

Requirements
• Active U.S. law license in good standing
• Strong experience in family-based and humanitarian immigration, including:
• 601a waivers
• Consular processing
• Adjustment of Status
• T visas
• VAWA
• RFEs
• Proven ability to manage a substantial caseload independently
• Prior experience mentoring or supervising other attorneys (formal or informal)
• Strong legal writing, issue-spotting, and judgment
• Comfort giving feedback and enforcing standards

Preferred
• Spanish/English bilingual strongly preferred
• Experience training or onboarding junior attorneys
• Familiarity with high-volume immigration practice environments
