A respected California-based law firm is seeking an attorney with a strong background in law enforcement defense, civil rights litigation, or related public sector work to join its well-established practice group. This opportunity offers the chance to represent cities, counties, and state agencies in high-impact cases involving law enforcement and correctional agencies. The Law Enforcement Defense group represents a wide range of clients — from municipalities to state and federal agencies — in complex and often high-profile matters, including use-of-force, in-custody deaths, Fourth and First Amendment claims, and POBRA issues. What You’ll Do • Defend law enforcement agencies and officers in civil rights and tort litigation involving use-of-force, false arrest, illegal search, or failure-to-protect claims. • Manage all aspects of case handling from inception through resolution — including discovery, motion practice, depositions, and trial preparation. • Provide risk management counseling and policy guidance to public safety agencies on POBRA compliance, policy development, and constitutional limitations. • Collaborate with experienced colleagues who understand the nuances of public entity defense and police liability. Qualifications • J.D. from an accredited law school and active California Bar membership. • 3+ years of litigation experience (law enforcement or public entity defense strongly preferred). • Excellent legal writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills. • Ability to manage cases independently while working as part of a cohesive team. • A passion for defending those who protect the public.
