Law Clerk
Job Description:
• Participate with Prosecutors and Legal Affairs staff in all phases of the regulatory and/or disciplinary process
• Research administrative and case law
• Draft legal memoranda
• Review proposed legislation and administrative rules
• Draft complaints and draft/respond to motions
• Make appearances before administrative law judges at status and formal hearings
• Attend settlement negotiations
• Gain intimate knowledge of a variety of financial regulatory and professional Practice Acts
• Opportunities within Prosecution units (General, Business, Health-Related, Medical, Real Estate) and Legal Affairs units (Professional Regulations, Real Estate, Banking, Financial Institutions, Labor Relations, FOIA, Administrative Hearing)
• Students may rank preferred units but may be assigned to a different unit
• Paid and remote position with flexible schedule
Requirements:
• Currently attending law school
• Completion of at least one year of law school on or before 6/30/2026
• Students who have completed first, second, or third years of law school by summer 2026
• Preference for students who have completed second year and are eligible for Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711 license in summer 2026
• Not a licensed attorney in the State of Illinois
• RESUME IS REQUIRED; attach detailed Resume/Curriculum Vitae (CV), transcripts or diploma for all degrees earned, and any applicable professional licensures
• Department must verify proof of higher education before an offer can be extended
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States; State of Illinois does not provide sponsorship for employment visas or OPT extensions
• Knowledge/Skills: Legal Research; Legal Writing; Drafting legislation and rules; Assisting in the formulation and implementation of Department policy; Photocopying; Filing
