Junior UI/UX Designer (Remote Opportunity)
Mind Computing is seeking a fulltime, 100% remote Junior UI/UX Designer to join a team supporting a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) project. The ideal candidate will apply Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles to develop and enhance user-centric applications that prioritize usability, accessibility, and high availability.
Responsibilities:
ā¢ Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into intuitive design solutions.
ā¢ Design wireframes, mockups, and prototypes using tools such as Figma to communicate design intent.
ā¢ Translate complex workflows into user-friendly, accessible interfaces.
ā¢ Contribute to and maintain design systems, UI patterns, and documentation.
ā¢ Conduct user research, usability testing, and analysis to inform design decisions.
ā¢ Formulate research-driven questions to support indirect user discovery when direct access is limited.
ā¢ Synthesize research insights into actionable design improvements.
ā¢ Design applications in alignment with Section 508 accessibility standards and best practices.
ā¢ Serve as a resource for accessibility guidance across teams, including developers and testers.
ā¢ Support accessibility testing, audits, and remediation efforts.
ā¢ Translate accessibility requirements and findings into clear, actionable guidance.
ā¢ Work within Agile teams, incorporating iterative feedback from stakeholders and developers.
ā¢ Additional tasks as needed to support project success.
Qualifications:
ā¢ Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, HCI, or related field.
ā¢ Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a UI/UX Designer with a strong portfolio showcasing user-centered and accessible design work.
ā¢ Strong understanding of Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles.
ā¢ Demonstrated experience designing accessible interfaces and supporting Section 508 compliance.
ā¢ Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and translate user needs into effective design solutions.
ā¢ Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
ā¢ Experience working in Agile environments with iterative development cycles.
Additional Qualifications:
ā¢ Familiarity with VA Digital Service guidelines and USWDS (U.S. Web Design System).
ā¢ Experience supporting federal or government projects (VA, DHA, HHS, etc.).
ā¢ Knowledge of design systems, design tokens, and scalable UI frameworks.
ā¢ Experience with additional tools such as Axure, Miro, Mural, Jira, or Confluence.
ā¢ Experience supporting accessibility audits, testing, or remediation efforts.
ā¢ Experience with SAFe/Agile.
ā¢ Ability to obtain government clearance.
