Junior Planner - Development

The Town of Newmarket is committed to providing effective planning services, and they are seeking a Junior Planner - Development to support customer service and assist in processing development applications. This role involves collaborating with Senior Planners to draft reports and ensuring accurate communication with stakeholders and the public. Responsibilities Under the direction of the Manager, Planning Services, and with day-to-day direction of Senior Planners, the Junior Planner - Development is responsible for customer service support responding to inquiries from the public on a range of issues and queries Assists Senior Planners and Planners with processing development applications, reviews zoning and planning matters for development applications Responsible for drafting Committee of Adjustment reports in collaboration with Planners or Senior Planners, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail in completion of all reports and communications with the stakeholders and the public Skills Post-secondary degree in Urban Planning or related discipline combined with some experience in a municipal or similar setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience Eligibility for membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and the Canadian Institute of Planners Sound knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe Professional (i.e., manipulate PDFs) and Accessible Documents Demonstrated ability to work effectively and courteously with elected officials, all levels of staff, external government agencies, the development community, and the public, with the ability to respect confidentiality Demonstrated communication, analytical, interpretive, problem-solving, interpersonal, negotiation, report writing and organizational skills Knowledge of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute Professional Code of Practice Good knowledge of planning principles Ability to organize, shift priorities and work independently Available to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as required Company Overview The Town of Newmarket is located in York Region and is home to over 90,000 residents.
