Job Description:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Aide - Extended Resource (ER) to join our team at Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. As a Special Education Aide, you will play a vital role in supporting students with extreme emotional and behavioral problems, working closely with teachers to provide individualized attention and guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist teachers with tutoring and supervising students who exhibit extreme emotional and behavioral problems
Perform auxiliary duties as assigned, including de-escalation techniques and first aid
Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment
Develop and implement strategies to calm students who are upset or angry, defuse conflict situations, and safely restrain out-of-control students
Requirements:
Meet one of the three qualifications: high school diploma or equivalent with completion of the ParaProfessional Assessment, Associate's degree or higher, or completion of two years of higher education (at least 48 semester hours)
Successful completion of de-escalation training and obtainment of a first aid card within the first six months of employment
Demonstrate an understanding of specialized needs and effective methods of working with ER students
Knowledge of basic reading, math, and curricula areas appropriate for age level of students required in English
