Immigration Legal Assistant/Paralegal

Overview

A legal office with locations in Austin and Laredo, Texas, is seeking a Spanish-speaking Immigration Legal Assistant/Paralegal with at least 2 years of experience. This role supports family-based immigration cases, deportation defense, humanitarian relief, and some business immigration matters. The position offers flexibility to work in-person in Laredo or 100% remotely.

Responsibilities

Prepare, manage, and support immigration petitions and applications including I-130s, Adjustment of Status (AOS), Consular Processing (CP), waivers (I-601/601A), naturalization (N-400), VAWA petitions, U and T visas, asylum, Medical Deferred Action, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and related relief.
Assist attorneys with removal defense cases, including EOIR proceedings, cancellation of removal, defensive adjustments, motions to reopen/reconsider, and administrative appeals.
Prepare and file employment-based immigration cases such as H-1B, L-1, O-1, and E-1/E-2 visas.
Manage client communications including conducting intakes, initial interviews, and providing case updates.
Work under attorney supervision to ensure accurate and timely case management.

Requirements

Fluency or professional proficiency in Spanish is required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience as an immigration legal assistant or paralegal.
Associate's or bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or a related field preferred.
Paralegal certification from an ABA-approved program is preferred.
Ability to work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with an emphasis on work/life balance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using INS Zoom for immigration case management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Docs.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly wage ranging from $20 to $25, depending on experience.
Health insurance coverage.

Location

Position available in Laredo, Texas (in-person) or 100% remote.
