This position requires a strong and diverse skillset in relevant areas to drive success. We offer a clear and simple compensation of a competitive salary for this position. Â Â VIBE is looking to add a full-time Evening and Weekend Writer to its expanding news and editorial team. Since the early '90s, VIBE has been an authoritative voice, celebrating and reporting on the Black experience and its multi-cultural impact on Music, TV/Film, Fashion, Lifestyle, and more. VIBE is about the message, the mood, and the movement that informs and inspires the masses.
We are seeking a strong writer who will find the pulse of must-read stories and viral moments in entertainment and trending events. This highly motivated, self-starter has sound editorial judgment, a flair for storytelling, and a deep knowledge of Black culture. They also see opportunities to spark online conversation around topics that impact and matter to our audience.
The full-time Evening and Weekend Writer must be based in the New York City or Los Angeles area. This fully remote writer will report to the News Editor.
What You'll Do:
 Identify trending topics and/or viral moments in Black culture, entertainment, and more
 Write and self-publish engaging and timely news articles with clean copy and strong headlines
 Self-edit and review news content for accuracy, errors, verified sources, and relevance
 Share live articles on VIBE's Facebook and Twitter accounts
 Consistently and dependently maintain a consistently high editorial standard while delivering exceptional and informative content to our audience
 Work from Wednesdays through Sundays, with occasional special events coverage
Qualifications:
 2+ years of experience as an editor and news writer
 An active social media user who enjoys staying on top of entertainment news
 A strong understanding of breaking news protocol and SEO best practices
 A solid understanding of the Associated Press Stylebook and WordPress
 Familiarity with Canva and/or Photoshop is a plus
Typical Salary: 65K Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range.
