Key Responsibilities
Ā Administer system databases comprehensively across both production and development/test environments, including IDMS version migrations.
Ā Install, upgrade, and maintain IDMS software, incorporating function level upgrades and regular system maintenance.
Ā Provide 24/7 support for critical incidents related to database performance, collaborating with vendors as necessary.
Ā Drive performance tuning initiatives to maximize system efficiency and minimize z/OS CPU costs.
Ā Oversee training initiatives within the managed services team to bolster team competencies.
Ā Lead significant upgrade projects, acting as both Project Manager and Technical Solution Architect for IDMS version transitions.
Ā Support system programming efforts, ensuring robust database security management.
Ā Manage DASD/tape storage and space allocation for effective capacity planning and monitoring.
Ā Engage in disaster recovery strategies to uphold system integrity and reliability.
Required Skills
Ā Extensive experience as an IDMS System DBA, with a comprehensive understanding of IDMS utilities and troubleshooting methodologies.
Ā Expertise in SQL fine-tuning and query optimization.
Ā Knowledge of IDMS tools (such as CA and BMC) and familiarity with scripting languages, including REXX and CLIST.
Ā Proven ability to thrive in a service-level agreement (SLA) driven environment, providing continuous support in a large production setting.
Qualifications
Ā A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, complemented by at least 10 years of pertinent experience.
Ā Demonstrated experience and proficiency in system database administration and incident management.
