The CSDL Coastal Marine Modeling Branch (CMMB) is responsible for developing and maintaining national-scale, state-of-the-art, high-precision ocean models, and for building an infrastructure for the nation's navigation community to access and readily use NOAA model results and data. Support is needed to provide hydrodynamic modeling support, evaluation, and expertise to the VDatum program and optional support is needed for the coastal inundation modeling program. VDatum is a vertical datum transformation tool developed collaboratively between CSDL, the National Geodetic Survey, and the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services. Tasks to support for the VDatum program include: Collaborate with the CSDL team to develop and code hydrodynamic models for the computation of tidal datums, ensuring adherence to the VDatum team framework and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Assist with pre-processing and compiling shoreline, bathymetry, and oceanographic datasets. Assist with unstructured meshes that are able to resolve the fine, complex coastal shoreline and bathymetry features. Assist with performing model calibration, tides assimilation, and related technical support to enhance modeling capabilities and address identified issues. Assist with performing model datums correction and uncertainty estimate of the datums products through spatially varying uncertainty analysis. Assist with quality check of the final datums products. Evaluate the performance of the hydrodynamic models and generate comprehensive reports summarizing findings and lessons learned. Assist with automating the model development and testing process to enhance work efficiency. Assist with engaging with stakeholders to discuss modeling techniques, evaluate model results, and develop or refine operational procedures. Capable of quickly learning. A certain degree of creativity and independent judgment is required. Effectively processing large volumes of information and datasets, including bathymetry, shoreline, oceanographic datasets. Experience handling those datasets and manipulating said data to produce hydrodynamic model outputs. Proficient in programming techniques, with expertise in at least one language such as Fortran, MATrix LABoratory (MATLAB), Python, or related languages. Proficiency in scientific and technical report writing and publications.
