Hospice Music Therapist, PRN - Board Certified

Hospice Music Therapist, PRN - Board Certified Develops, implements, and evaluates music therapy services and programs for patients and families in a hospice, palliative, home, skilled facility, assisted living facility or hospital setting according to the patient's plan of care. Uses evidence-based therapeutic music experiences through a strength-based lens. Essential Job Functions: Provides evidence-based, individual- and family-centered music therapy sessions primarily at the bedside; medical music therapy support focuses on social, emotional, physical, and developmental health. Goals of clinical work may include relaxation and pain management, coping and emotional processing, developmental support, opportunities for choice and control, and end-of-life/bereavement support. Utilizes independent clinical decision-making to manage caseload and provide clinical assessment, treatment, and planning. Demonstrates clear, effective, and timely communication in written and spoken form, including communication with referral sources. Completes documentation of clinical work and patient goals in the electronic medical record. Collaborates with the Medical Director, Nursing staff, Bereavement Coordinator, Social Worker, Chaplain, Home Health Aide, Volunteers, Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists, aligning with the patient's overall care plan. Stays abreast of current research and practice. Participates in music therapy research and quality improvement projects as assigned, including collaboration with in-house and external research partners. Maintains active certification and participates in research-related training as required. Ability to play guitar, piano, or other instruments and sing effectively to lead sessions. Performs job functions adhering to the Capital Hospice & Palliative principles and other job functions as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires completion of a bachelor's or equivalency degree in music therapy from a program approved by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). Completion of a master's degree in music therapy or other mental health field is preferred. Licensed and Board Certified professional. Basic Life Support Certification required Minimum 1 year of experience in hospice. Basic understanding of age-related differences in caring for and communicating with patients of this type. Must hold a valid driver's license and an insured automobile that is in good working order and meets state/organization requirements. Must possess the ability to work independently without supervision and hold accountability. Effective problem-solver who uses good judgement in difficult situations.
