Role Description The role involves providing guidance and support to students through a structured curriculum and responsive services, ensuring their academic, personal, and social development. Qualifications • Master’s degree from a recognized, accredited college or university, with a valid Texas Certificate as a Professional School Counselor • A minimum of two (2) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher • Valid Texas school counselor certificate • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills • Visionary leadership in public schools to work with faculties, families, and communities of the 21st Century Requirements • Probationary/Term Contract: 200 days, $68,670 (IA-3) • Years of teaching experience will be considered when determining starting salary • Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees • Candidates for counselor positions may receive credit for certified teaching experience for salary calculation purposes Benefits • Supportive work environment • Professional development opportunities • Health and wellness programs Essential Functions • Guidance Curriculum: • Plan, organize, implement, and deliver structured group lessons according to the district’s guidance curriculum in a virtual setting • Instruct students and manage their ability to present information in various settings • Teach school guidance curriculum components using effective instructional strategies • Collaborate with students, staff, parents, and the community to identify priorities • Create a balanced curriculum with engaging delivery techniques • Responsive Services: • Use accepted theories and effective techniques of developmental guidance to support students • Implement remediation practices to assist students in coping with problems • Provide continued support through individual and small group counseling • Serve as an impartial resource for interpersonal conflicts • Individual Planning: • Create developmental and age-appropriate school counseling services • Utilize digital platforms for academic planning and guidance • Advocate for a diverse and equitable school environment • Interpret standardized test results and guide students in goal setting • System Support: • Collect and interpret testing data to address specific student needs • Conduct an annual program audit for accountability and action plans • Participate in campus-based school improvement planning • Communicate the counseling program’s management system to stakeholders • Engage in staff development and continuing education opportunities • Other Related Duties: • Ensure student records are maintained as required by regulations • Comply with policies established by federal and state law • Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards for school counselors • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures • Demonstrate proficiency in technology integration for virtual learning • Employ strong virtual communication skills • Show flexibility and adaptability in navigating new technologies Working Conditions • Maintain emotional control under stress • Work with frequent interruptions • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours
