GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF HIGHWAY SAFETY Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) provides leadership by developing, promoting, and coordinating programs that influence public and private policy by increasing public awareness of highway safety issues. GRANT SPECIALIST Job Location: 1700 West Washington Phoenix, Arizona 85007 Posting Details: Salary: $61,000 Grade: 19 This position will close on Friday May 29, 2026 Job Summary: This Grants Project Specialist coordinates several grants for the agency. The agency administers highway safety funds for the state on behalf of the governor. Typical grants that the position administers range from 20-30 agencies (police departments, sheriff's, non-profits, other governmental agencies) covering anywhere from 20-50 grants across multiple program areas and covering upwards of a few million dollars. This position ensures that funding is being spent appropriately (only on contracted items) and in a timely fashion (within the time parameters set in the contract). Done through frequent monitoring, telephonically or in person, of subgrantees and reviewing complex financial statements including timesheets and bid sheets for equipment. In addition to administering individual highway safety grants, this position plays an integral role in managing other projects and efforts on behalf of the agency as assigned by the Grant Administrator and/or agency Director. Job Duties: • Manage specific grants, and ensure that funding is being spent appropriately (only on contracted items) and in a timely fashion (within the time parameters set in the contract) • This is done through frequent monitoring, telephonically or in person, of subgrantees and reviewing complex financial statements • Acts as a liaison under the supervision of the Grant Administrator for specified programs as directed • Provides information to agencies, the public, and other organizations on all aspects of the program Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge: • Federal or local grant procedures and grant administration • State or local administrative policies and procedures • State and local traffic statutes and codes • Traffic safety issues Skills: • Strong communication and supervisory • Oral and written communication • Organizational skills • Interpersonal skills • Time management Abilities: • Adapt to different goals and priorities for the agency director • Critical thinking and strong writing ability • Work in a dynamic work environment • Manage multiple projects at one time Selective Preference(s): • Knowledge of federal grant processes, including processing, administering, and monitoring grants preferred • Research capabilities Pre-Employment Requirements: • If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements.
