Job Description:
The GIS Technician supports engineering and utility projects by managing geospatial data, producing technical drawings, and assisting with permitting and documentation workflows. Responsibilities include integrating GIS, CAD, and electrical data to support asset management, construction planning, and telecom infrastructure applications.
This role involves close collaboration with engineers, field crews, and permitting agencies to prepare deliverables that meet client and regulatory standards. The position requires hands-on use of platforms such as Alden One, Google Earth, and AutoCAD to support cable replacement, permitting coordination (including IDOT), and field operations.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and update GIS databases to support utility and infrastructure projectsPrepare KMZ files using Google Earth/Maps for field deployment and spatial planningProduce AutoCAD drawings to support cable replacement, permitting, and construction documentationSupport telecom equipment applications and permitting workflows using Alden OneAssist with asset management, construction planning, and documentation for electrical and telecom systemsReview incoming data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GIS and CAD standardsCreate maps, exhibits, and technical visuals for internal and external stakeholders
Job Requirements:
0-3 years of experience in GIS, CAD, or electrical infrastructure projectsEducation in Engineering, Geography, Electrical Technology, or related fieldsProficiency in ESRI ArcGIS products and ArcGIS-based modelingExperience with AutoCAD and Google Earth/Maps for utility and permitting applicationsFamiliarity with Alden One or similar telecom asset management platformsStrong skills in database management and Microsoft Office Suite; Microsoft Access is a plusExcellent verbal and written communication for team updates and client coordinationAbility to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environmentComfortable working independently and collaboratively across engineering and permitting teamsU.S. Citizenship or Green Card required
