Geographic Information Systems Consultant
Overview
The Senior GIS Integration Specialist is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing enterprise-grade Geographic Information System (GIS) capabilities to support regulated program operations and spatial data visualization. This role focuses on seamless integration between GIS platforms, core transactional systems, and master data repositories, ensuring spatial accuracy, performance, and compliance with agency standards. The specialist will collaborate closely with application architects, data teams, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-performance GIS solutions that support regulatory workflows and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
GIS Architecture & Data Modeling
Design and implement GIS data models that align with enterprise master data structures and regulatory program requirements.
Define spatial data schemas, relationships, and metadata standards to support accurate mapping and analysis of regulated sites.
Ensure consistency between spatial datasets and authoritative master databases.
GIS Integration & System Interoperability
Integrate GIS capabilities with existing client GIS platforms and enterprise applications.
Implement secure, API-based consumption of GIS services to support application workflows and data exchange.
Coordinate data synchronization between GIS systems and backend databases to ensure data integrity and timeliness.
Spatial Visualization & Mapping
Develop and optimize spatial visualizations to represent regulated sites, program boundaries, and geospatial attributes.
Support interactive mapping features for internal users and external stakeholders, as required by program needs.
Ensure visualizations meet usability, accessibility, and performance expectations.
Spatial Accuracy & Coordinate Management
Manage coordinate systems, projections, and spatial reference standards to ensure geospatial accuracy.
Validate spatial data alignment across multiple data sources and systems.
Resolve discrepancies related to coordinate transformations and spatial precision.
Performance Optimization
Optimize map rendering and spatial query performance as data volume and user demand scale.
Tune GIS services and spatial queries to support responsive user experiences.
Collaborate with infrastructure and database teams to address performance bottlenecks.
Data Governance & Quality
Enforce GIS data governance standards, including validation rules, auditability, and version control.
Support data quality checks and reconciliation processes between spatial and non-spatial datasets.
Document GIS integration patterns, data flows, and technical configurations.
Collaboration & Delivery Support
Work closely with application developers, data architects, and program teams during design, development, testing, and deployment.
Support system testing, UAT, and production validation for GIS-enabled functionality.
Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support related to GIS integrations and spatial data issues.
