Glen Abbey Dr, Springfield, MO 65809; October 29, 2025 Subject: Contract Starting time: Immediately Job Title: Freelance Proofreader Job Description: The applicant’s primary responsibility will be to ensure the clarity and readability of the language in new international scientific and mathematical articles as they are being published. The proofreader receives an agreed-upon number of articles daily (Monday through Friday), assuming there is sufficient volume that day. They will then proofread for inaccuracies within the language following the ACS 3 style guide and the AIMS style guide. Once completed, they will resubmit each article into our JAMS system. On occasion, proofreaders may be given proofreading tasks outside of the JAMS system. Qualifications: o A bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM discipline is preferred; however, a highly qualified applicant with an English background may also be considered. o Candidates with a Master's degree or PhD are highly encouraged to apply. o 1-2 years of work experience is helpful. o Responsible, collaborative, dedicated, and meticulous. Be able and willing to adapt to changing situations and meet or exceed deadlines within reason. o Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature and Adobe Acrobat’s Comment tools. Must be willing to use Google software and Microsoft software—knowledge of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc., a plus. o Must be familiar with ACS 3 or be willing to become familiar with it immediately. Knowledge of citation styles is helpful. o A deep passion for English grammar and an eye for detail. o Maintain good communication with colleagues and supervisors through various means, such as email, Google Chat, text messages, and phone calls. If the need arises, since we all work remotely, we must have a way to contact you during working hours. o Must have access to a stable internet connection. o Willing to learn new things, a quick learner of different software, e.g., LaTeX, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator...
