Freelance Food News Writer - Mashed
Steady assignments. Reliable pay. Static Media is looking for enthusiastic, experienced freelance writers to join our food news team. We own and operate seven food brands: Chowhound, Daily Meal, Food Republic, Foodie, Mashed, Tasting Table, and The Takeout. Writers typically contribute to one brand, but may occasionally be asked to switch or write across multiple food brands. This opening is specifically for Mashed, with the possibility of contributing to other brands in the future.
Ideal candidates have at least three years of experience writing content for print or the web with a focus on food, cooking, and dining content. We are looking for creative individuals who are self-sufficient and versatile. The position is work-from-home with flexible, stable hours. Location does not matter; U.S. and international candidates are encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Be Doing
• Select news and evergreen topics from a curated list of assignments
• Research, write, and submit 300- to 900-word articles via our custom CMS
• Turn around assignments quickly—speed and accuracy both matter here
• Follow our style guide, editorial strategy, and publishing standards to keep our content sharp, trustworthy, and engaging
What We Offer
• Compensation: $21–$25 per hour. Compensation within this range is based on experience and qualifications, with $21 per hour as the starting rate.
• Reliable payment: Paid on time, twice a month
• Flexible scheduling: You choose your own days and hours
• Fully remote: Work from anywhere with a good internet connection
• High visibility: Static Media content reaches 220M+ readers/month and is syndicated across MSN, Yahoo, AOL, Apple, and more
What You’ll Need
• At least 3 years of editorial experience (writing and/or editing)
• Comfort working in a CMS
• Familiarity with the Associated Press Stylebook and strong command of grammar and structure
