Forklift Operator

Job Summary:

As a Forklift Operator at Walmart, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to move, stack, and retrieve merchandise within the warehouse or distribution center. Your primary role involves transporting goods to and from storage areas, loading and unloading trucks, and assisting with inventory management tasks. Your attention to safety, accuracy, and efficiency will contribute to Walmart's commitment to maintaining smooth warehouse operations and delivering quality products to customers and stores.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Forklift Operation:

- Safely operate forklifts, reach trucks, and other material handling equipment to move merchandise throughout the warehouse.

- Follow proper operating procedures and safety guidelines to prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to merchandise.

- Maneuver forklifts in tight spaces and narrow aisles while maintaining control and awareness of surroundings.

2. Loading and Unloading:

- Load and unload trucks, trailers, and shipping containers using forklifts and pallet jacks.

- Transfer merchandise between storage areas, shipping docks, and delivery trucks, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

- Stack and organize merchandise in storage racks or designated locations within the warehouse.

3. Inventory Management:

- Assist with inventory counting, cycle counts, and stock replenishment as needed.

- Use handheld devices or computer systems to update inventory records and locate merchandise.

- Communicate any inventory discrepancies or shortages to supervisors for resolution.

4. Safety and Compliance:

- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines for forklift operation, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Conduct pre-operational inspections of forklifts and equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.

- Report any equipment malfunctions, maintenance issues, or safety hazards to supervisors immediately.

5. Team Collaboration:

- Work collaboratively with warehouse associates, supervisors, and logistics personnel to achieve daily operational goals.

- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks, resolve issues, and maintain a safe and efficient work environment.

Qualifications:

- Valid forklift operator certification or license required.

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

- Previous experience operating forklifts and material handling equipment in a warehouse or industrial setting.

- Knowledge of forklift safety procedures, operating principles, and maintenance practices.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling merchandise and inventory.

- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment for extended periods.

- Physical agility to maneuver and lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) using appropriate equipment.

- Ability to stand, sit, and walk for long periods and work in varying temperatures and environmental conditions.

Working Conditions:

- Warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and physical hazards.

- Use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.

- Interaction with team members, supervisors, and delivery personnel throughout the shift.
