Financial Analyst, Corporate Accounting

The Financial Analyst role involves preparing journal entries, performing balance sheet account analyses, and supporting the month-end close process in accordance with IFRS 17 guidelines.ResponsibilitiesPrepare and record a wide range of journal entries, including expense accruals, transactions related to specialized insurance programs not automated through the system, owned broker commission accounting, and entries required for equity accountingSupport corporate accounting month-end activities, including processing IBNR journals and late adjustmentsPrepare Balance sheet reconciliations and respond to internal and external audit inquiriesMaintain accurate and timely journal entries and financial adjustments throughout the close cycleEnsure all monthly close deliverables are completed with a high degree of accuracy and within established deadlinesProduce clear, consistent reconciliation documentation in alignment with accounting and balance sheet reconciliation policiesAssist the Manager, Corporate Accounting, with all tasks related to month‑end close and subsequent balance sheet reconciliationsSkillsBachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration1–2 years of relevant accounting or financial reporting experienceExperience with Oracle Fusion or another ERP general ledger systemStrong understanding of accounting operations and balance sheet reconciliationsProven ability to improve processes while meeting tight deadlinesSolid technical accounting skills, including working knowledge of IFRS 17Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environmentHigh attention to detail and strong ownership of resultsExcellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with peers and leadersStrong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, particularly when working with complex accounting concepts and issuesActively pursuing a CPA designationKnowledge of the P&C insurance industryFamiliarity with SmartView and reconciliation toolsBenefitsCompelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunitiesOutstanding Career Development opportunitiesWe’ll support your professional development educationCompetitive vacation package with the option to purchase 5 extra days off per yearEmployee driven programs focused on gender, LGBTQ+, origins, diversity and inclusionCorporate wellness programs to support our employees’ physical and mental healthHybrid flexible work modelCompany OverviewAviva Canada Inc. is a Canadian property and casualty insurance company and a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK-based Aviva plc.
