• Own and improve all financial and operational systems.
• Manage accounting at both project and corporate levels.
This role does not have direct reports.
This is a fully remote role.
A Week in the Life
• 50% Systems & Process Leadership: Financial systems implementation, migration, and continuous improvement.
• 30% Project Accounting Oversight: Payables/receivables, subcontractor/vendor management, and project financial support.
• 20% Corporate Finance & Administration: Reporting, banking, payroll, compliance.

Systems & Process Leadership (~50%):
• Act as the primary owner and champion for the company’s new financial systems, working as a key partner with the principals, team members, and our external consultant to implement them effectively.
• Lead the hands-on migration from our current Zoho Books platform, ensuring data integrity and a seamless transition.
• Implement and manage a robust payment processing platform (e.g., Ramp, QuickBooks Bill Pay) to streamline vendor and subcontractor payments, including managing PM approvals and migrating from existing credit card systems.
• Develop and own the vendor management process, including vendor onboarding, collection of insurance certificates (COIs) at the project level, and integration into payment systems.
• Systematize and manage the process for preparing and submitting specialized payment applications for various clean energy incentive programs (approx. 196 annually).
• Systematize and manage the process by which all subcontractor pay applications and vendor invoices (approx. 850 annually) are approved by project managers, ensuring proper approvals, coding, and compliance, and developing a system to manage by exception.
• In collaboration with the principals, develop, document, and implement robust internal controls and financial processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Project Accounting Oversight (~30%):
• Oversee all project accounting functions, ensuring financial data is accurately captured and reported.
• Accounts Receivable management: generate & send invoices; follow up for payment.
• Compliance management: ensure we are staying in compliance with our customers’ vendor management platforms.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to provide financial support and ensure the financial success of each project.
Corporate Financial Stewardship (~10%):
• Take complete ownership of the full-cycle corporate accounting function, including the general ledger, quarter-end/year-end close, and all financial statement preparation (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
• Serve as a key strategic partner to the principals, providing insightful financial analysis and reporting to inform high-level decision-making.
• Manage credit card, banking, & benefits/retirement.
Compliance & Administration (~10%):
• Manage the monthly payroll process and all related compliance in collaboration with our HR platform, Gusto.
• Oversee the company’s expense management system and subcontractor compliance (lien waivers, insurance).

Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or MBA is a plus.
• Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with a proven track record of system ownership and process improvement.
• Core Strengths: Full-cycle corporate accounting, financial modeling, and analysis, with a demonstrated ability to take ownership of financial systems and drive process improvements.
• Systems: Highly proficient with modern software systems, including bookkeeping software (QuickBooks strongly preferred), task management platforms, and ERPs; experience creating workflows with dependencies is essential.

Requirements
Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship

Willing to work California Business Hours 830AM-530PM from a distraction-free home office
7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with a proven track record of system ownership and process improvement
Highly proficient with modern software systems, including bookkeeping software (QuickBooks strongly preferred), task management platforms, and ERPs; experience creating workflows with dependencies is essential.
Demonstrated experience in implementing, refining, or migrating financial systems & processes
