About the position
The Exterminator L-I position at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Division of Environmental Health involves inspecting premises for pest infestations, applying appropriate extermination methods, and ensuring public safety during pesticide application. The role is crucial in maintaining public health by controlling environmental health risks associated with pests.
Responsibilities


Inspect premises and investigate complaints of infestation.
,
Determine the appropriate method of extermination to be used.
,
Properly bait areas according to protocol.
,
Apply appropriate dosage of rodenticide according to labels and post signs in public areas.
,
Maintain an extermination schedule of bait application in accordance with protocol and label directions.
,
Keep records of exterminating operations and make reports.
,
Instruct the public on safety and precautions before and after application of pesticides.
,
Inspect demolition worksites to confirm adequate pre-demolition rodent control procedures.
,
Properly use and maintain all city-issued equipment, materials, and clothing.
,
Attend all required trainings and meetings.
,
Operate city vehicle safely and in accordance with state laws.


Requirements


A valid certificate as a Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator for Industrial, Institutional, structural and Rodent Control (7A) issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.


Nice-to-haves


Two years of full-time satisfactory practical experience in the preparation and use of insecticides, rodenticides, baits, traps, and related chemicals/equipment for extermination.

One year of full-time satisfactory experience in a supervisory capacity for a total of three years experience.
