Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Part-Time Lead Before and After School Instructor to join our team at Dickinson Elementary in Sammamish, WA. As a Lead Instructor, you will play a vital role in guiding elementary-age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands-on learning activities at our Before and After-School Enrichment (BASE) program. This program is designed to provide a safe and caring place for students outside of the classroom, where they can grow, learn, and have fun. Responsibilities
Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the Y
Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child
May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children
Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures
Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, dΓ©cor and cleanliness of site
May prepare and serve snacks
Cleans snack area
Assists at Check in or out for parents
Assumes responsibility for program operation when DCYF designated and qualified staff is not on premises
Provides onsite support for the school-based Play Everyday Program at the school
Attends staff meetings and trainings as required
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and skills:
Essential Qualifications
18 years of age or older
2 or more years of experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, and nannying
Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty
Experience planning and implementing group activities
Have completed 12 credits of 100-level or above college-level coursework and have a GED or high school diploma
Transcripts will be required during the offer stage to ensure applicants meet state licensing requirement pre-hire
Preferred Qualifications
21 years of age or older
Leadership or supervisory experience (1-2 years)
Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.)
Ability to speak any language in addition to English
Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered
