Job Overview We are expanding our online offerings and are looking for skilled and dedicated tutors who can teach a range of subjects and grades. As an Online Work From Home Tutor, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere, with a schedule that fits your needs and availability. This is a part-time position, with hours ranging from 2-16 hours per week, depending on your availability and how much you want to work. You will have the opportunity to work with students in a one-on-one setting, delivering personalized instruction and support to help them achieve their academic goals. Key Responsibilities Greet students and initiate instruction to personally engage each student Instruct students according to the design of the Sylvan programs, using pre-made and assigned lessons Manage students, tasks, and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session, working at a 3:1 ratio with direct instruction delivered 1:1 Evaluate and record the progress of each student on their program assignment, using praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn Motivate students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements, and record and track tokens earned by students Manage the conclusion of each instructional session, and support procedures to ensure student safety and well-being Communicate specific student needs to Center staff, and attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: A four-year degree or equivalent in a relevant field, such as education or a related subject area State or provincial teaching credentials (preferred) Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension (preferred for reading teachers) Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible, with strong problem-solving and customer service skills Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience working with students in a tutoring or teaching setting, particularly in an online environment Familiarity with the Sylvan programs and instructional methods Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to student-centered learning Career Growth and Learning Benefits At Sylvan Learning, we are committed to the ongoing development and growth of our staff.
