Skills:
- Strong understanding of residential mortgage lending
- Proficient in Conventional, FHA, and VA underwriting
- Familiarity with FNMA and FHLMC guidelines
- Ability to perform credit analysis and risk assessment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PDF
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze mortgage applications and documentation for accuracy and compliance with standards and guidelines
- Analyze various financial ratios and documentation to identify potential fraud or misrepresentation
- Understand and evaluate different types of tax returns
- Verify accuracy between company systems and Automated Underwriting System
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of each loan
- Review appraisals to ensure compliance with market and investor standards
- Request additional documentation or information as needed
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Mortgage Underwriter (both government and conventional)
- Experience with underwriting within the Empower Loan Origination System
- Direct Endorsement (DE) certification required
- VA LAPP certification preferred
