Key Responsibilities Review and verify assigned codes and sequences for diagnoses and procedures, adhering to regulatory guidelines and coding standards to ensure accurate health information. Contact physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify clinical information as necessary, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding and regulatory requirements, participating in continuing education to stay current with changes to CPT, HCPCS, and ICD codes. Utilize web-based tools, coding books, and other resources to provide insurance companies with required information, ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement. Navigate multiple information systems to accurately select patient accounts, review, and verify billable charges, demonstrating proficiency in data management and analysis. Participate in audits to capture lost charges and determine billing accuracy, contributing to process improvements and quality assurance initiatives. Gather demographic, insurance, and healthcare encounter information from various sources to facilitate billing for medical provider professional fees. Enter and verify demographic information, charges, and comments into the computerized billing system, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Perform manual charge entry, gathering necessary information to accurately bill medical provider professional fees, and create registrations in the EPIC system as needed. Respond to inquiries from provider offices and internal departments in a timely, accurate, and professional manner, providing exceptional customer service.
