As a Juvenile Justice Officer 2, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of youth detained at the Nome probation office, while also promoting restorative justice and rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure the security and well-being of youth detained at the Nome probation office during assigned shifts, which may include day, evening, night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Perform escorts from Nome to other youth facilities in the state, as well as residential treatment centers in and out of Alaska.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with youth, families, and community stakeholders.
Provide support and guidance to youth in achieving their goals and developing life skills.
Collaborate with other professionals, such as probation officers, counselors, and law enforcement, to ensure a comprehensive approach to juvenile justice.
Maintain accurate records and reports, including incident reports, progress notes, and other documentation.


Essential Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED.
Six months of paid or volunteer experience teaching or coaching group activities for youth.
Must be 20 years of age or older.
OR: Six months of experience as a Juvenile Justice Officer 1 with the State of Alaska, or equivalent elsewhere, and demonstrated achievement of department-approved performance standards.
OR: Six months of experience administering, advising on, performing, or supervising adult or juvenile corrections, law enforcement, parole, probation, residential treatment casework, or social casework.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with at-risk youth or in a related field, such as education, counseling, or social work.
Knowledge of restorative justice principles and practices.
Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
