We're seeking a talented Distributed Systems Engineer - Storage to join our team and contribute to the evolution of our storage solutions. About the Storage Team The Storage team is responsible for providing high-performance, secure, and centrally managed storage services to Netflix's global platforms, applications, and users. Our mission is to enable efficient data management, storage, and archiving in the cloud, while ensuring seamless integration with the Netflix ecosystem for access control and observability. We're managing storage at an exabyte scale, serving a vast amount of content worldwide. Key Responsibilities Designing and Operating Storage Services: You'll be involved in building and operating services, APIs, and tooling for various use cases, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and meet the needs of our global user base. Collaboration and User Engagement: You'll engage directly with end-engineering users to understand their requirements and improve their experience, driving the development of user-centric solutions. Problem-Solving at Scale: You'll tackle complex problems, balancing action with informed decision-making to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business needs at scale. Cross-Functional Alignment: You'll work proactively, communicating effectively to achieve alignment across functions and drive progress. Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you should possess: Recent and Proficient Programming Experience: Proficiency in languages such as Java, C++, Go, Python, or similar, with a strong understanding of software development principles. Distributed Systems Experience: Experience in building and operating highly reliable distributed systems in a cloud environment, with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities they present. Pragmatic Problem-Solving: A passion for technology, combined with pragmatic thinking and the ability to break down complex problems into manageable components. Domain Experience: While not mandatory, having domain experience in storage or related fields is highly preferred. Preferred Skills and Competencies In addition to the essential qualifications, we look for: Cloud Computing Knowledge: Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, particularly AWS, and their associated services. Storage Technologies: Understanding of storage technologies, including object, block, and file storage, and their applications.
