About the Role We are seeking experienced Distributed Systems Engineers to help develop and enhance our infrastructure as we pursue our ambitious objective of reaching 500 million people worldwide. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems that enable our business functions to make data-driven decisions. Focus in Data Infrastructure Groups Our Data Infrastructure Groups are the backbone of our operations, providing unified data platforms and tools for various business functions. We have several teams that focus on different aspects of data infrastructure, including: Database Access Platform : This team builds and operates a flexible query gateway that facilitates data reflections to work at sub-millisecond latencies, enabling Netflix microservices to store, consume, and manage their data more effectively. Data Platform Infrastructure : This team acts as a platform for our own data platforms, providing a common framework and tooling that enables blithequark to rapidly innovate and deliver cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the organization without building customized platforms for each new system. Big Data Compute : This team is responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at blithequark, offering support for Flash, ETL data into the Petabytes-scale data warehouse, and access to that data using Flash and Voila/TrinoDB. Big Data Orchestration : This team provides the platform for planning, organizing, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve way, including critical services that have all ETL and ML responsibilities running on Big Data Systems at blithequark. Key Responsibilities As a Distributed Systems Engineer at blithequark, your key responsibilities will include: Designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems that enable our business functions to make data-driven decisions Collaborating with engineers, product managers, and TPMs across groups to drive cross-functional initiatives Architecting and building a robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure Applying your programming and analytical problem-solving skills to address real business needs at scale Contributing to open-source communities and sharing our experiences with the broader engineering community Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you should have: 2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems features or applications Experience with the design and development of RESTful web services Knowledge of Java or other object-oriented programming languages Experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems A BS in Computer Science or a related field Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience with cloud-native technologies and distributed data processing Knowledge of Python and other programming languages Experience with open-source communities and contributing to open-source projects Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you should possess the following skills and competencies: Strong programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, or C++ Experience with distributed systems, including design, development, and operation Knowledge of cloud-native technologies, including containerization and orchestration Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At blithequark, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
