The ARC is responsible for managing six facilities and a business office, with sections dedicated to husbandry, maintenance, operations, veterinary care, finance, and administration. Job Summary and Responsibilities We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated ARC Compliance & Training Specialist to join our team. As a key member of the ARC, you will be responsible for planning and executing laboratory data collection and analysis to support clinical research, assisting in specialty research involving animals, MRI technologies, histology, and other areas. Under minimal supervision from the Director of Rodent Clinical Services, you will be responsible for post-approval monitoring rounds, surgery observations, coordinating animal compliance issues, and protocol congruency for special services procedure requests from investigators. Performs post-approval monitoring on rodent and exotics colonies, including regular rounds of each room to ensure animal well-being and monitor protocol compliance. Observes PI-performed procedures and surgeries to ensure animal welfare, protocol compliance, and aseptic technique. Works closely with veterinary technicians, veterinarians, and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) to address and resolve potential investigator compliance issues. Performs facility rounds, ensuring program Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines are followed, including satellite facilities. Co-leads Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) studies, provides guidance and training on rodent technical procedures, and ensures required documentation is completed and verified. Provides animal care and use protocol verification for special services procedures, ensuring that investigators are approved for special techniques. Participates in the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), assists with resolution of facility inspection findings, and provides guidance to investigators with action plans and corrections. Develops and teaches training, including hands-on technique training and aseptic surgical procedures for investigators. Assists with the evaluation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring regular review of the program. Coordinates continuing education opportunities for staff, providing options and/or guidance for career advancement or professional growth within the laboratory animal science field. Essential and Preferred Qualifications To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong educational foundation in a related field, such as laboratory animal science, biology, or a related discipline. A minimum of 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline is required, with preferred experience in a biomedical research environment and a research animal setting. Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field. Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications: AALAS certification at the LATG level is preferred. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted, 2-4 years of experience with biomedical research environment, and 3-5 years of experience in a research animal setting. Skills and Competencies The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with faculty, investigators, administrators, staff, and outside vendors. You should be able to initiate problem-solving and prioritize tasks, demonstrating good judgment and decision-making skills.
