About the position Responsibilities • Develop and execute a strategic plan for the HRPP that aligns with organizational goals. • Lead initiatives to improve research compliance and operational efficiency. • Provide leadership that fosters a culture of excellence and collaboration within the HRPP. • Monitor risks to program success and develop risk management strategies. • Ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines, including AAHRPP accreditation and federal regulations. • Serve as the point of contact for federal regulatory agencies and oversee accreditation materials. • Provide leadership to the IRBs and ensure proper protocol review and compliance oversight. • Act as a resource for IRB members and investigators on regulatory issues and ethical considerations. • Coordinate with compliance and ethics professionals to promote ethical decision-making. • Collaborate with leadership to expand access to UVA clinical trials. • Lead training and mentoring for staff and study teams on best practices and regulatory compliance. • Drive initiatives to enhance the HRPP and adapt to changing requirements. • Engage in outreach and partnerships with other institutions and organizations. Requirements • Master's degree or equivalent. • 10+ years of relevant experience in human subject protections and federal regulations. Nice-to-haves • Proven leadership in a research institution or academic setting. • Experience with IRB oversight and management in both social/behavioral and biomedical research. • Exceptional strategic planning and organizational skills. • Strong change management experience. • Experience implementing an enterprise IRB system. • Strong teaching and mentoring abilities. • Experience with AAHRPP accreditation processes. • Engagement with professional organizations and accrediting bodies. • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CIP, CCRC, CRA). • Experience with clinical research management and Good Clinical Practices (GCP). • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook). • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
