About the position The Environmental Program Specialist 1/Trainee position is part of the New York HELPS program, focusing on environmental conservation and compliance. Responsibilities Perform technical evaluation of applications for air pollution control permits and registrations. , Draft air pollution control permits and registrations using applicable regulations. , Conduct field inspections at regulated facilities to determine compliance with regulations and permit conditions. , Investigate air quality complaints reported by the public. , Prepare written reports and recommendations of compliance status for supervisor review. , Assist staff and the Office of General Counsel in air enforcement cases. , Manage files, including electronic files and FOIL requests. Requirements Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, biology, or engineering. , 1 year of qualifying experience for Trainee 2 or 2 years for EPS 1. , Valid driver's license. Nice-to-haves Experience in technical evaluation of environmental applications. , Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations. , Ability to conduct field inspections and investigations.
