The Fire Designer/Engineer will be responsible for designing building systems, preparing technical documents, and performing engineering calculations while collaborating with project teams.ResponsibilitiesPerforms calculations and designs basic engineering systems in collaboration with experienced design staffPrepares system layouts, detailed drawings and schematicsReviews shop drawings for conformance to plans and specificationsPrepares or modifies reports, plans and designs for projectsActs as a mentor to less experienced designersSupports business development or pursuit activitiesParticipates in client, company and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationshipsFosters a client-centric mindset and approachCommunicates with clients as needed for the development and coordination of requirements and scope of workSupports answering questions from clients and architectsOccasionally visits job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progressIdentifies and seeks to fill gaps in industry and/or discipline knowledge on a continuous basisMaintains knowledge and understanding of common industry software, including Revit, Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office productsResearch and reviews new products, industry trends and evolving codes and standardsPerforms calculations and designs basic to intermediate design systems with minimal supervisionPrepares system layouts, detailed drawings and schematicsReviews shop drawings for conformance to plans and specificationsPrepares or modifies reports, plans and designs for projectsPerforms research and makes recommendations as to the feasibility of systems or equipmentEvaluates products for their applicationProvides technical guidance to others when appropriateCollaborates on business development or pursuit activitiesParticipates in client, company and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationshipsFosters a client-centric mindset and approachCommunicates with clients as needed for the development and coordination of requirements and scope of workMaintains proactive communication throughout the project cycleAnswers questions from clients and architectsVisits job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progressAssists in resolving conflicts involving owners, architects and contractors as neededIdentifies and seeks to fill gaps in industry and/or discipline knowledge on a continuous basisMaintains knowledge and understanding of industry software, including Revit, Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office ProductsActs as a resource for training or assisting others as neededResearch and reviews new products, industry trends and evolving codes and standardsUnderstands and applies Henderson’s design guidelines, standards, policies and proceduresPerforms a limited range of project management responsibilities under the supervision of experienced managersAsks questions when performing unfamiliar tasksMay support or be responsible for project coordination activities such as managing emails, coordinating scope and schedule, attending client meetings, ensuring project quality, responding to client questions and coordinating project deliverySkillsBachelor's degree in relevant field of engineering (i.e.: mechanical, electrical, fire protection or architectural) and 1 year of relevant experience or 4 years of experience with high school diploma or equivalent is requiredCompletion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam preferredBasic proficiency in engineering design: basic knowledge of the A&E industry, codes, design guides and standardsProficiency with Revit and Bluebeam Revu preferredHigh technical aptitude: ability to learn, understand and utilize various systems and processesEffective verbal and written communication skills;
