Enhance Fundraising Capacity of University Faculty of Health Sciences

Description The Southern Africa Nazarene University (SANU) has three faculties: Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Education, And Faculty of Theology. The Faculty of Health Sciences (FOHS) currently offers four programs, including bachelor’s degrees in 1) nursing and midwifery (BSNM), 2) nursing anesthesia, 3) medical laboratory science, and 4) pharmacy. FOHS will soon add two new programs: the Bachelor of Science in pharmacy and Master of Science in nursing with specializations in nursing education, leadership, and management. SANU’s strong history collaborating with the Peace Corps has supported their desire to accelerate nursing leadership training and meet national health goals, something they have not yet been able to do independently. Thus, Southern Africa Nazarene University is seeking the support of one Virtual Service Pilot Participant (VSPP) to strengthen fundraising capacity for the university. They will collaborate with the chairperson of the resource mobilization committee and support the fundraising initiatives outlined in Faculty of Health Sciences (FOHS’) 2024–2029 strategic plan. The engagement with the VSPP will allow the resource mobilization committee to develop and implement fundraising strategies through various channels, including individual donations, corporate sponsorships, grants, and events, while enhancing their ability to build and maintain relationships with existing and potential donors, ensuring that they are engaged and informed about the organization’s work and impact. The organization has previously collaborated with the Peace Corps. They understand that the role of a VSPP is very different than a Peace Corps Volunteer or Peace Corps Response Volunteer. One of the strategic objectives of the university is to ensure that SANU has sufficient funds to meet its day-to-day working capital needs on time, including the payment of staff salaries, projects expenses, and fixed costs. The engagement with the VSPP will provide technical guidance and build the SANU’s team capacity to raise and secure funds through various channels, including individual donations, corporate sponsorships, grants, and events. Virtual Service Engagement and Tasks The VSPP will engage in the following tasks, in collaboration with their host country partners: • Co-identify and research potential funding sources, including grants, donors, and corporate sponsors • Support the committee to write compelling grant proposals and funding requests that are tailored to specific donors or organizations • Co-train the committee on how to maintain accurate records for donations, grants, and donor interactions • Share best practices on regulatory compliance with fundraising and financial management • Co-prepare reports on fundraising performance and financial status for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability • Meet with the resource mobilization committee monthly VSPPs are expected to engage on the tasks listed above for an estimated 5–15 hours per week. This engagement is estimated to be 10 hours per week. Online collaboration will generally occur between 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Eswatini time (SAST). Specific times will be determined during orientation. The host country counterpart will have access to Zoom, WhatsApp, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams for regular communication and collaboration. Per the Child Protection Code of Conduct, when engaging online with minors (0–18), two adults must be present.
