The Role We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a high-impact squad focused on payments and monetization. This team owns the systems behind checkout, subscriptions, plans, and the core infrastructure that drives transaction revenue across the platform. You will be responsible for how work gets done. That includes unblocking engineers, making sound technical decisions, and keeping quality high while continuing to contribute directly to the code. This is a player-coach role. You will lead a small team, but you are not stepping away from engineering. You are someone who likes building and can raise the level of the team around you. We move quickly, use AI to accelerate our workflow, and ship to production continuously. You will help shape how we build and scale the systems that directly impact Gross Transaction Volume. Responsibilities Manage a small, high-performing squad of engineers focused on payments and monetization Spend roughly 60% percent of your time writing production code Own the technical execution behind checkout, subscriptions, billing, and plan management Unblock engineers and help them make practical, high-quality technical decisions Drive execution across payments-related work such as checkout improvements, subscription logic, pricing systems, and third-party integrations Work closely with product and design to ship improvements that increase conversion and revenue Integrate and improve third-party payment platforms so they feel seamless and reliable Maintain a high bar for quality, performance, and system reliability Coach and develop engineers through direct feedback and ongoing support Hire and onboard new engineers as needed Push for fast feedback loops and frequent releases Act as the escalation point for payment-related systems Qualifications Six or more years of experience as an engineer and at least one year leading/managing other engineers Strong full-stack experience, ideally with Ruby on Rails and modern frontend frameworks Experience working on payments, subscriptions, or billing systems in a real product Comfortable integrating third-party payment providers such as Stripe or similar platforms Actively technical and currently coding Solid understanding of how payments work in practice, including checkout, subscriptions, retries, failures, and edge cases Bias toward action and forward progress Clear communicator who works well across engineering, product, and business teams Comfortable making decisions in situations that are not fully defined Interested in using AI tools to improve speed and output How You Operate You enjoy coding and do not see management as a step away from building You think in terms of systems and outcomes, especially as they relate to revenue You take ownership and follow things through You move quickly and prefer shipping to overthinking You believe in small iterations and continuous delivery You take responsibility for helping your team move forward You stay calm under pressure and handle fast-moving environments well You have strong opinions but are open to changing your mind You would rather ship something this week than spend weeks talking about it Location Remote.
