Engineering Manager - Data Security

About the RoleAbnormal AI is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Data Security team. The Data Security team’s mission is to safeguard the entire lifecycle of Abnormal AI’s customer data through robust Security and Privacy standards and data governance platform solutions. Our customer data, once onboarded to Abnormal products, must be secured and protected by strict enforcement of Zero Trust Data Access - Authentication, Authorization, and Auditability (AAA).You'll be the leader of this team, which comes with the responsibility for the end goal and the autonomy to chart the course, drive execution & build the team you need. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with a distributed team, will have led backend engineering teams before in enterprise environments and hired experienced engineers. What you will doRecruitingDefine the team requirements to reach long term targets.Create recruiting plans, job reqs, and rapidly hire qualified candidates.Drive the closing of candidates.Create onboarding plans to set up new hires for success.People Management and GrowthCreate a healthy team environment & culture with low attrition & high team member satisfaction.Actively manage team performance - understand team member’s strengths and weaknesses, areas of growth, whether they are meeting their specific role expectations, and craft a plan to address under & over performance.Coach engineers: provide timely, actionable feedback, and invest time in career development of team members.Team ExecutionCreate execution plans for the team to deliver on projects and roadmap items.Ensure execution and attainment of team’s goals through inspection and course correction.Enforce technical design and project plans, along with Product Managers, Architects and Tech Leads.Ensure best practices & organizational processes (eg. Jira processes, incident management processes, Quarterly planning processes) are being followed within the team.Operational ExcellenceBuild and improve process and tooling for the teams to handle code launches and production escalations, and support Customer Service and Sales efforts.Define and track operating metrics for the production services (uptime, other SLAs, bug open rate, etc), and establish a plan to continuously improve.Leadership and CollaborationReceive assignments in the form of long term objectives and determine how to meet schedule & goals.Provides input into feasibility of team strategy proposed by org-wide leadershipCollaborate with Tech Leads, Architects, Product Managers, and Product. Designers on product requirements, technical solutions, and product architectureCollaborate with senior and executive leaders to form quarterly OKRs and roadmaps.Must Haves2+ years of engineering management experience, leading a team of 4+ engineers building scalable enterprise-class customer-facing products. 5+ years of software engineering building secure, reliable, and scalable distributed systems.3+ years of product development leadership experience (as a lead engineer or engineering manager) working with cross-functional counterparts to build enterprise class customer-facing products.Interest in Security and Privacy problem space - you are able to apply a practical Security-first mindset to give technical advice to your team when needed.AI enabler - lead, empower, and rally the team to adopt AI-powered tools to be more effective at their work such as improving information and knowledge gathering, developer productivity, and operational efficiency. Recruiting magnet - you are able to set up a hiring plan, attract senior engineers, outline the vision of the team and build out a large team.Passion in growing talents - you are able to give actionable feedback and coach your team to learn from past mistakes to derive short-term and long-term improvements and apply them moving forward.High standards - set and uphold high standards and expectations for operational excellence, technical quality, and project execution for yourself and the whole team.BS degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Information Systems or other related engineering field.Nice to HavesExperience with Security open source solutions (Envoy, OPA, OAuth, SSL, TLS, etc..).Familiarity with our stack (AWS/Azure, K8s, Python/Django, Golang, Postgres, Redis).Experience with large scale distributed systems.At Abnormal AI, certain roles are eligible for a bonus, restricted stock units (RSUs), and benefits.
