Education - Interpretation and Teaching Strategies

Support the Whitney Museum’s Education team in developing interpretive materials, multimedia guides, and visitor engagement strategies for Fall 2025.

Your Role:

Key responsibilities include:
• Assisting with preparation and production of exhibition content for multimedia guides and extended object labels.
• Supporting research for upcoming special exhibitions, collection rotations, and visitor engagement strategy initiatives.
• Assisting with audio and video content production, including arranging and producing interviews with exhibiting artists, and quality assurance for multimedia guides.
• Maintaining and updating the educator website and ongoing communications with affiliate staff.
• Preparing and archiving research files, recording and transcribing exhibition walkthroughs, prep workshops, training programs, and other materials, including digital content assets.
• Coordinating the schedule of tours and in-gallery visitor engagement programs across multiple platforms.
• Attending and supporting in-person and virtual enrichment programs and special events for educators, such as field trips, book clubs, meetings, luncheons, events, and workshops.
• Observing tours and programs, contributing feedback and evaluation to docents, educators, and teaching fellows.
• Gathering and recording attendance statistics for tours, education programs, and audience use of interpretive materials.
• Assisting with production of updated Docent Program Manual.

About You:

The ideal candidate will possess:
• Strong writing skills and an interest in research and learning.
• Some background in art history.
• Interest in museum education and educational pedagogy.
• Attention to detail.
• Familiarity with WordPress or similar platforms, Excel, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

Interns will be paid a stipend of $3000. Additional benefits may include access to museum events, professional networking opportunities, and exposure to museum operations and educational programming.

Training & Development:

Interns will learn how to produce interpretive materials, guides, and other educational content for a museum. The role provides insight into museum education and educational pedagogy, as well as experience with training, evaluation, research, writing, archiving, and digital skills.
