Document Accessibility Specialist (Part Time)
Overview:
FWI is building a team to provide graphic design, photography, Section 508 remediation, and related production services for the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Public Affairs. As a Document Accessibility Specialist, you will create and edit documents to ensure accessibility to people with disabilities in compliance with Section 508 requirements and government standards. Candidates must be within 50 miles of the DOL Frances Perkins Building in Washington, DC. Hours will vary based on project needs.
Responsibilities:
Remediate documents to ensure compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and government accessibility standardsConvert and format documents to be readable by assistive technology devicesTest documents using screen readers (e.g., JAWS) and other assistive technology toolsEnsure all deliverables conform to the Revised Section 508 Standards (36 CFR part 1194, Appendices A and C)Provide Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACR) as requiredValidate ICT for conformance using DHS Trusted Tester methodology and Harmonized Testing GuidanceCoordinate with on-site graphic designers to ensure final products meet accessibility standardsPerform any additional remediation at no additional cost to the Government for products found non-compliant
Qualifications:
Required: 5 years of experience remediating documents to ensure compliance with Section 508 of the United States Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973Trusted Tester Certification is requiredAdvanced skills in Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Pro productsIntermediate experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointExperience with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Creative CloudFamiliarity with assistive technology screen readers and related software tools such as JAWSKnowledge of federal laws protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education ActStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsExperience working in web accessibility software applications FWI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including disability/vets.
