POSITION: Director of Field Engagement REPORTS TO: Deputy Director SECTION : Executive STATUS: Exempt Summary Description: The Director of Field Engagement builds deep relationships and develops robust communication with affiliates to ensure that CLINIC’s services are responsive to evolving needs. Additionally, the Director of Field Engagement is responsible for coordinating CLINIC’s work to create, expand, and improve charitable immigration legal services programs including new affiliate recruitment. Finally, the Director of Field Engagement maintains strategic and innovative partnerships within the field to promote the expansion and sustainability of quality immigration legal services. This position is a member of CLINIC’s senior leadership and as such provides input and participates in planning for decisions affecting the entire organization and shares responsibility for achieving CLINIC’s mission through effective and efficient mobilization of its resources. The Director of Field Engagement must demonstrate a willingness to understand, respect and contribute to CLINIC’s mission, vision and values. Primary Responsibilities: Affiliate Engagement Oversee the evaluation and assessment of all new affiliate application, and new affiliate acceptance and onboarding processes. Set annual section engagement goals including targeted support for new and vulnerable affiliates as well as for affiliates in underserved areas. Manage the development and maintenance of affiliate cohorts and communication channels for robust and regular engagement, including peer-to-peer learning opportunities. Ensure the quality of CLINIC’s affiliate engagements throughout the organization through peer education, mentorship, supervision, training, and workload assignments. Oversee the collection, analysis, and distribution of affiliate data to evaluate and inform CLINIC’s services. Organize the periodic review and evaluation of affiliate criteria and conditions, including affiliate dues. Work with affiliates and strategic partners to expand the number of charitable programs qualified to provide immigration legal services. Fieldwork Assess and report to the Executive Director and Deputy Director on capacity of immigration legal services nationally in the field. Cultivate relationships with strategic partners and identify opportunities to work in coalition to promote the expansion and sustainability of quality immigration legal services. Ensure that access to CLINIC’s trainings and resources are limited to qualified immigration legal service providers. Oversee the launch and cross-sectional integration of new grant-funded projects within CLINIC. Educate stakeholders on the importance of access to reputable and qualified immigration legal services with a primary focus on the DOJ Recognition and Accreditation program. Cross-Sectional Collaboration and Coordination Ensure timely updates and information from affiliates are available and accessible to all CLINIC staff. Create organizational strategies for identifying and utilizing promising practices in field engagement and ensure the provision of responsive, innovative, and quality capacity building services. Work closely with CLINIC’s Director of Network Services on continuously examining and strengthening the flow of information between the field and CLINIC’s network services. Collaborate with CLINIC’s Communications team in promoting CLINIC’s work: Write articles and otherwise contribute to CLINIC’s publications. Participate in media interviews and other opportunities to speak publicly on behalf of CLINIC. Assist in drafting appeal letters, grant proposals, and grant reports in collaboration with CLINIC’s Advancement team to support staff expenses, section operations, projects, and flow-through funds to the field. Prepare reports for board and management consumption, as requested. Management and Administration Provide Section staff with necessary direction, supervision, and support to ensure clarity in roles, responsibilities, and expectations. Develop annual operational plan and proposed budget for Section. Monitor spending against approved budget and Section performance against planned objectives, including grant spending and deliverables. Ensure the timely and accurate maintenance of a central affiliate database. Coordinate with CLINIC’s Finance department to ensure proper affiliate dues billing and accounting Ensure that section staff have updated position descriptions, current work plans, and are familiar with and comply with CLINIC personnel and administrative policies and procedures. Conduct performance evaluation and offer regular feedback and guidance to section staff. Assess staff resource and developmental needs, develop strategies and budgets for meeting those needs, and facilitate access to developmental resources. Ensure section staff understand, respect, and contribute to CLINIC’s mission, vision, values, and beliefs. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in management, social work, or related discipline, required, graduate degree in management, social work, or related discipline preferred. Ten years of combined experience in immigration-related field and non-profit management. Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and good humor. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people – junior and senior, for-profit, and nonprofit, and from diverse backgrounds. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Committed to CLINIC’s mission and impact. Knowledge and understanding of the provision of charitable immigration legal services. Knowledge and understanding of Catholic social teaching on immigration. Demonstrates exceptional judgment and initiative. Discipline and the ability to communicate and adhere to a shared vision, mission, and set of goals and priorities. Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in organizational settings. Ability to work self-sufficiently and to direct multiple projects. Ability to meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Work Environment: This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and repetitive lifting of significant weight.
