Development Project Manager - Energy

Opportunity The Development Project Manager oversees the development and completion of utility-scale renewable energy projects (1 MW or greater) from land acquisition through Notice-to-Proceed (NTP). This position plays a key role in facilitating project management requirements—scope of work, scheduling, estimating, engineering, and construction specifications—to ensure successful project delivery. The ideal candidate has a proven background in renewable energy development, particularly with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and excels at managing multiple stakeholders, regulatory processes, and community engagement efforts. • This is a contract role based in Detroit,MI. Remote candidates will be considered . Key Responsibilities • Lead renewable and BESS projects through all development stages—early, mid, and late phases—to achieve NTP. • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams responsible for project schedules, cost estimates, and construction engineering specifications. • Oversee project budgets, procurement, and contractor management to ensure cost-effective and timely execution. • Identify and evaluate potential renewable project development opportunities, including negotiation of leases, easements, and related agreements. • Manage and advance projects through the MISO interconnection application process, engineering design, permitting, and pre-construction activities. • Provide clear, consistent communication of project status to all stakeholders and leadership teams. • Collaborate with community and customer-facing groups to support local engagement and outreach initiatives. • Evaluate renewable energy market conditions, trends, and risks, providing strategic input for new opportunities. • Support business development efforts, including preparation of marketing materials and M&A proposals. • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, maintaining all required documentation and reporting. • Participate in industry working groups and policy discussions to stay ahead of emerging trends and initiatives. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Environmental Science, or related field (Master’s preferred). • 5+ years of experience in renewable energy project development, preferably utility-scale solar or BESS. • Strong understanding of interconnection processes (MISO or similar). • Experience managing land acquisition, permitting, and stakeholder relations. • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills. • Familiarity with project management tools and software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Salesforce, etc.). • Willingness to travel as required to project sites and stakeholder meetings.
