Job Summary As a Special Education Aide - Extended Resource, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and emotional needs of students who exhibit extreme emotional and behavioral problems. You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide individualized attention and guidance to students, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their academic goals. Key Responsibilities Assist teachers with the tutoring and supervision of students who may exhibit extreme emotional and behavioral problems Provide individualized support and guidance to students, helping them to develop social, emotional, and academic skills Perform auxiliary duties as assigned, including preparing educational materials, maintaining a safe and organized learning environment, and supporting students with daily routines Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents, providing regular updates on student progress and responding to concerns or questions Develop and implement strategies to de-escalate conflicts and support students in managing their emotions and behaviors Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with unique needs Essential Qualifications High school diploma, or equivalent, and completion of the ParaProfessional Assessment within four (4) months of hire; or Associate's degree or higher; or completion of two years of higher education (at least 48 semester hours) or the equivalent Successful completion of de-escalation training and obtainment of a first aid card within the first six (6) months of employment Demonstrated understanding of specialized needs and effective methods of working with ER students who may exhibit extreme emotional and behavioral problems Knowledge of basic reading, math, and curricula areas appropriate for age level of students required in English Ability to communicate clearly and consistently with students, staff, and parents; to calm students who are upset or angry, defuse conflict situations; and to safely restrain out-of-control students who present a danger to self or others Preferred Qualifications Experience working with students with unique needs, particularly those with emotional and behavioral challenges Training or certification in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, or other related areas Strong understanding of child development, learning theories, and educational practices Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities Skills and Competencies Strong emotional intelligence and empathy, with the ability to understand and respond to the needs of students with unique challenges Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents Ability to work in a team environment, collaborating with teachers and other support staff to achieve common goals Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a Special Education Aide - Extended Resource with our organization, you will have access to a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: Professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with unique needs Mentorship and coaching from experienced teachers and support staff Opportunities to participate in district-wide initiatives and projects, contributing to the development of innovative educational programs and services Collaborative and supportive work environment, with a strong focus on teamwork and mutual respect Work Environment and Company Culture Our organization is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive work environment, where every employee feels valued, respected, and supported.
