About the position

The Custodial Worker II position at Texas State Technical College (TSTC) involves performing semi-skilled custodial cleaning work to ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of assigned areas. The Custodial Worker II will receive instructions in both oral and written forms, and their work will be reviewed and inspected by supervisors to ensure compliance with cleanliness standards. In this role, the Custodial Worker II will provide leadership in accomplishing custodial tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Responsibilities include vacuuming and cleaning carpets, sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors. The worker will also dust and polish furniture, clean windows, blinds, lights, lavatories, commodes, showers, and tubs. Additionally, the worker is responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance, upkeep, and repair of all custodial equipment, and must report any necessary repairs to the supervisor. Proper disposal of trash and cleaning of trash cans are also essential duties. The Custodial Worker II may be assigned other related duties as necessary, depending on the needs of the college. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least six months of previous experience in custodial work. The ability to serve as a leader for other custodial workers is essential, as is the capability to follow both oral and written instructions. A workable knowledge of custodial equipment, including vacuum cleaners, wet and dry pickups, and automatic scrubbers, is necessary. Familiarity with modern restroom cleaning methods and the chemicals used in this process is also required. The job description indicates that the percentage of time spent on essential functions may vary based on workload, which will ultimately be determined by the supervisor.

Responsibilities

Requirements
• High School graduate or equivalent.

• Six months previous experience in custodial work.

• Able to serve as leader for other custodial workers.

• Must have a workable knowledge of custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, wet and dry pickups and automatic scrubbers and related equipment.

• Must know the modern methods to use in restroom cleaning and be familiar with the chemicals and application used in restroom cleaning.
