Curiosity-first science mentor for an 8-year-old

Remote Full-time
I'm looking for a mentor for my 8-year-old daughter. She loves Greek mythology, builds her own worlds in Minecraft, and is obsessed with the periodic table — not because she memorized it, but because she anthropomorphizes each element, giving them personalities and characters based on their actual properties. Her friends come to her to learn about elements because of it.

This is deliberate. Most kids can't connect with science because it's presented as facts, not stories. Characters and narrative are what create attachment — at least, that's always been true for her. The anthropomorphization is the entry point, and I want someone who doesn't just understand that intellectually, but genuinely gets why it works — and ideally, has some version of that in their own story too.

I want someone who genuinely geeks out about science and sees her approach as brilliant — and who is confident they can build on it.

If that person also connects science naturally to other fields — mathematics, history, music, design, physics — even better. Her math mentor plays chess with her and talks about the relationship between music and math. That kind of cross-disciplinary curiosity, on top of a real love of science, is the ideal.

What I'm looking for

- A genuine science enthusiast who finds her anthropomorphization project as exciting as she does

- Experience mentoring or teaching children — knowing how to pace a conversation, when to push deeper and when to follow her lead

- Conversation-driven sessions that follow her curiosity, not a curriculum

- Willingness to go deep on the weird, surprising, and beautiful parts of science

- Cross-disciplinary thinking as a bonus — connecting science to history, art, music, mathematics when it fits naturally

Session structure

Weekly 1-hour online sessions. I'd like the mentor to design the approach together with her — she'll have opinions. I'll stay involved indirectly over time, through her feedback, and we can adjust direction together as we go.
