Corporate Staff Accountant

Smithbucklin is a professional services company with over 70 years of experience serving the association market, seeking a Corporate Accountant to join their Corporate Finance unit in Chicago. The role involves performing accounting and analytical tasks, ensuring compliance with financial reporting standards, and collaborating with senior management to produce detailed financial reports. Responsibilities Perform a range of accounting and analytical tasks in addition to interpreting financial reports and data to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with company and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Oversee accounting operations for service units and overhead units Prepare and distribute customized financial reports by established monthly deadlines while ensuring for the quality, timeliness and integrity of data Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations on a monthly basis Collaborate with senior management of service units to produce detailed, monthly analytical reports including variance reports and trend analysis Evaluate monthly financial results with CFO and unit leaders, noting business results and trends Serve as a key contributor in assuring adherence to monthly financial closing schedule (within 10 business days) Provide support for the monthly forecasts and annual budgets Assist with monthly board reports and act as a resource during the annual audit Skills Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution with a concentration in Accounting 0-3 years of related accounting experience Proven analytical ability and strong project management skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to confidently work with upper-level management and executives High level of proficiency in Excel Strong computer proficiency with the ability to troubleshoot common issues and adapt to new tools Benefits Hybrid environment offers you the option of working from home two days per week Standard 40-hour week Company Overview For 75 years, Smithbucklin has been a trusted steward for our association, society, and community partners, deeply vested in each one’s purpose, goals, values, and long-term success.
