Controller
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Directs the financial affairs of the organization and prepares financial analyses of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management. The Controller provides information to the company's partners and assists in the development of financial plans and policies. The controller is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of the company's accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. The position involves supervision over general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls. Salary Range: $160,000- $200,000 PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Work with the Operations and Accounting Teams to close the books and provide accurate & timely financial information to the executive leaders of the business by the 9th business day of each month. Improve the closing process to reduce the monthly close schedule over time. * Partner with the CFO to analyze and interpret statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization. * Provide effective financial controls for the organization. * Maintain the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets. * Evaluate the performance of personnel in the Accounting Department or those who perform tasks that impact the company's accounting practices. Recommend and implement training to ensure the staff has the necessary level of skills to meet company needs and objectives. Recommend that personnel be hired or removed from the Department as needed. * Coordinate the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures (including the cost accounting system) and analyzes and reports variances. * Responsible for tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes. * Furnish internal reports, revise and update reports to be more useful and efficient and furnishes external reports as necessary. * Determine depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items and advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax revisions. SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS UNDER CONTROLLER'S RESPONSIBILITY/SUPERVISION: * Production and Work-in-Process Reporting * Recording of all financial transactions and subsequent financial reporting * Assist with financial planning, budget preparation and tracking * Invoicing and client file and accounts receivable maintenance * Payroll, payroll tax reporting and bonus calculation * Directing of cash flow including accounts payable planning and line of credit usage * Responsible for financial records and reporting including job billing files, ERP data, and vendor files and qualifications SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This role supervises the roles of Sr. Accountant, Accountant, and Staff Accountant. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: * 5+ years of experience as a Controller in a construction or renovation company with revenue in excess of $50 million * Excellent computer skills, including Vista (Viewpoint) * Excellent communication skills both verbal and written EDUCATION: * BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related major WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
