About the position

The Consulting Actuary at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is responsible for delivering a wide range of actuarial and analytical work. This role involves conducting pricing and actuarial strategy, evaluating care management models, performing competitive benchmarking, and building complex insurance products. The Consulting Actuary supports the company's strategy by providing actionable actuarial analysis and recommendations, while also identifying risks and opportunities in a changing industry.

Responsibilities
• Accountable for completion of complex actuarial or analytical projects, ensuring timeliness, compliance, and quality of work
,
• Provide proactive and strategic thought leadership to improve processes, reduce risks, and meet objectives for profitable growth
,
• Achieve segment financial targets and provide explanations of results and variances; act as a financial steward
,
• Communicate effectively with all levels and divisions within the organization, including Divisional Leadership
,
• Manage external partnerships with vendors, auditors, regulators, and health care providers, including negotiation of contracts
,
• Develop and maintain strong business relationships with internal partners; act as a strategic advisor
,
• Meet continuing education standards required for job function and maintenance of actuarial credentials

Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related field
,
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries with a minimum of 7 years of relevant actuarial experience
,
• Or, Associate of the Society of Actuaries with a minimum of 9 years of relevant actuarial experience
,
• Member of the American Academy of Actuaries
