About the position

The National LGBTQ Institute on Intimate Partner Violence was created to significantly enhance the safety, well-being, support, and health of LGBTQ intimate partner violence (IPV) and domestic violence survivors throughout the United States. Utilizing ongoing input from providers, experts, and consumers, the Institute offers state-of-the-art training and technical assistance that significantly expands the capacity of public and private agencies to provide culturally relevant, survivor-centered LGBTQ IPV intervention and prevention services. The program also works to enhance the visibility of LGBTQ-specific IPV needs and intervention strategies, while conducting research to identify and disseminate evidence-informed interventions and overseeing policy initiatives that have a meaningful impact on the quality, scope, and accessibility of LGBTQ IPV services nationwide.

The Community Engagement Intern will be responsible for assisting in daily operations and managing the National LGBTQ Institute on Intimate Partner Violence’s (Institute) social media content, reaching community through a variety of outlets, and finding new engagement streams. This position will be responsible for planning, creating, scheduling, and posting content. The Community Engagement Intern directly reports to the Training Coordinator.

Responsibilities
• Work with the Institute staff to promote the Institute’s programs, services, and special events.
• Create engaging content for Instagram to educate the community on issues related to LGBTQ+ intimate partner violence and increase the Institute’s reach.
• Brainstorm/offer ideas for outreach.
• Assist with monitoring social media channels and activities.
• Assist with managing the Institute's outreach efforts.
• Provide technical assistance during webinar trainings.
• Participate and complete 40 hour Domestic Violence Advocacy Training certification.
• Support with event planning and execution.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
• Degree seeking student currently enrolled in college. Recommended to: Communications, Gender Studies, Social Work, Sociology, and other humanities/ social science majors.
• Displays excellent written and oral communication skills.
• In-depth working knowledge of Instagram creator functions.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask.
• Alignment with the Institute’s goals to significantly enhance the safety, well-being, support, and health of LGBTQ intimate partner and domestic violence survivors throughout the United States.
• Strong computer competency
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff
• Ability to multitask
• Repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement (while operating computer equipment)
• Occasional bending, stooping
• Eye-hand coordination (keyboard typing)
• Extended periods of reading fine print
